What are the Sharkies?

After circling the globe in search of better travel, we wanted to give a fin up to the people, places, and things we’ve encountered that courageously push the limits of a travel experience.

So we created the Sharky Awards, which honor unexpected and unique discoveries in travel. Anything from a hotel room with a cool theme to an unforgettable tour guide is a contender for a Sharky Award.

What makes something Sharky?

"Sharky" is the perfect way to describe a person, place, or thing that stops you in your tracks and makes you say, “WOW!”

Who or what can win a Sharky Award?

Sharky Award contenders include any place that people visit or person they interact with when they're traveling. Hotels, restaurants, bars, activities, dramatic golf holes, destinations, ingenious amenities, awesome people, and job titles are candidates for the Sharky Awards.

What's the prize for winning a Sharky Award?

Sharky Award winners will be featured on TravelShark.com and receive extra prominence on location-based TravelShark sites in the form of an eye-catching badge. We’ll also give the winner a digital version of the badge to use on their website to let the world know they're making a splash in travel. Plus, the bragging rights… invaluable.

How are Sharky Award winners selected?

Sharky Award nominations come from TravelShark users around the world, TravelShark's broad network of hyper-local travel writers, and members of the travel industry.

Every week and eventually each quarter, the TravelShark Sharky Awards Committee—comprised of industry experts inside and outside the company—review the nominations for uniqueness and "sharky" feel with a mind to naming a diverse set of winners from a range of locations, economic levels, and types of recipients. Awardees are then selected in a review by the committee. No influences or advertising relationships or any other connections are considered as part of the selection process.
